Teaching Philosophies

The sub links associated with this page anticipate the two areas of teaching I have the most experience: first year composition (FYC) and professional and technical communication (PTC). Both of these areas are important to me for myriad reasons, but my teaching philosophies center around three ideas that situate based on the student learning outcomes of the course.

For FYC, I posit the following: 1. Genres should adapt over time to adapt to changing populations; 2. Knowledge-making is collaborative; and 3. Transparency, fairness, and justice is paramount to success.C

PTC teachers are most successful when they are: 1. Collaborative in knowledge-making; 2. Guided by principled and evidenced pedagogy; and 3. Reflexivity is key to creating inclusive classroom spaces.

Please feel free to read these philosophies-in-process and reach out with any questions.
